The International Conference on the Standardization of Electromedical Equipment, organized by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), sponsored by the Shaanxi Pharmaceutical Society, and hosted by the Shaanxi Medical Device Professional Committee, was  held in Xi'an from March 11 to March 15, 2018, and was the first time that the IEC standardization meeting for electromedical equipment was held in China. 28 panel members from the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Norway, Finland, Japan, Korea, China and other countries with high level of medical device R&D and manufacturing attended the conference.

Professor Peng Yiancai, professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University and founder of Xi'an Tianlong Technology Co., Ltd., attended the meeting and delivered an opening speech on behalf of the organizers. Professor Peng said that Xi'an is not only a famous historical and cultural city, but also a city of science and technology innovations. He hoped that the ancient city's rich historical deposits and vibrant science and technology atmosphere would have a positive impact on this conference. Held in China, this conference is considered a milestone in the international development of China's standardization, in line with the latest international standards of technology, and is of great significance to enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese medical devices and to lead the future development direction of medical and electrical standards.

The aim of the five-day conference was to discuss the details of the standard on electrical hazards, mechanical hazards and fire protection design in IEC 60601-1 (to be released this year)  'Medical Electrical Equipment” -  Part 1: “General requirements for basic safety and essential performance”, Version 3.2, to finalize the voting versions.
